Gibson J-160e

The J-160e is by far the most used guitar in the Beatles career, as both Lennon and Harrison had them, and they can be traced from the earliest Abbey Road sessions in 1962, to the end of their career together.

It's important to regard the J160e as first and foremost an ELECTRIC guitar. That said, using any bronze wound (acoustic) string will not have as strong magnetism as a nickel wound string. When plugged in, the P-90 will sound weaker if you do choose a bronze string set. It's pretty safe to also assume that The Beatles didn't put on new strings every time they recorded acoustically too!

That said, I suggest the string to use with the J-160e is a Flatwound Nickel electric. If you don't have a J160e, and still desire that famous acoustic "Beatle" tone, try putting a Flatwound Nickel string on your favorite acoustic. On a J-45, they sound vintage! If you want a bendable G, mix them. It will sound slightly dead, but compare it to the records, and if you can record it yourself, with a little ambiance on it, and compression you've got instant Lennon sound with thick sounding "thwack" - Think Norwegian Wood as a great reference point. It sits beautifully in a recording.
